Why put flats on drill bit shanks

Why would I want flats on the shank of my drill?

Let’s ask another question. What professional fabricator, machinist, mechanic, plumber, or do it yourselfer, hasn’t spun a drill in the chuck? I know that I have.

The flats on the shank provide an ideal surface allowing the chuck to gain a positive grip on the drill. This type of drill is ideal for keyless chucks found in cordless hand held drill motors. With flats on the shank, spinning a drill in the chuck is simply, a memory from the past.

Norseman offers flatted shanks starting at 3/16 and above.
